Suse Cairns is Digital Content Manager at The Baltimore Museum of Art. Prior to that, she was a PhD Candidate at The University of Newcastle. She is author of the museumgeek blog and was co-host and co-producer of MuseoPunks.org – the podcast for the progressive museum (Winner 2014 Best of the Web – Museum Professionals).

She has presented at conferences including Museums & the Web (USA), Museums Australia, INTERCOM, the Museum Computer Network Conference (USA), and the National Digital Forum (NZ). In 2011, she was invited to speak at the Digital Culture Public Sphere, hosted by Senator Kate Lundy with Office of Minister Simon Crean. Suse also has teaching experience in the School of Creative Arts at The University of Newcastle.

Cairns’ work has been published in CURATOR The Museum Journal, Interpreting Australia Magazine, on the Museums Association UK website, and other websites. Cairns is a member of the Advisory Board for the NMC Horizon Report – Museum Edition and was on the Advisory Board of the Open Knowledge Foundation Network Australia. She is Program Chair for the Museum Computer Network 2015 conference. Suse holds a BArts (Comms – Print Journalism) from Charles Sturt University and BFA (Hons – 1st class, Faculty Medal) from The University of Newcastle. In 2012, she was awarded the Inaugural Margaret Olley Friends of the University Postgraduate Scholarship for Fine Art. She has received grants from ArtsNSW and the Kress Foundation, and in 2011, was awarded the UoN Ltd. Annual Student Art Prize.

Prior to moving to Baltimore, Suse worked at Newcastle Art Gallery, and volunteered with Emerging and Web Services at the Powerhouse Museum. She was “museumgeek-in-residence” at the Smithsonian Institution, Dallas Museum of Art, and Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.
